I’m going to be doing a workshop this year at Toorcon 2006. The talk is a hardware hacking workshop that uses “secret-bunnie-hardware” as its subject. You might be able to guess what this hardware could be, given the other blog entries around this one. It may be the only opportunity to acquire one of these pieces of hardware until a few months from now. And yes, you have to pay Toorcon a fee to attend the workshop.
The talk is geared toward people with a good sense of Linux OS fundamentals and C coding experience, but little or no familiarity with hardware. I will teach you how to add sensors and write drivers for them, and also cover a few methods for extracting and modifying embedded firmwares. The size of the session is small so I can spend quality time with the participants and go over questions and problems in detail. Ken Steele (aka hb), our client software lead developer, will also co-present some material on the structure of the OS on the client and reveal some of the fun features and easter eggs built into it. He will also be available as a Q&A resource during the workshop portion as well. I hope that by the conclusion of the workshop, you will have all the knowledge you will need to start executing your own bitchin’ hardware hacks.
There are nine remaining slots currently available for the talk.
bunnie, is the file “bunnies_breadboarding_station_project_and_instruction_guide.pdf” still on your server? then could you tell me the link?
i’ve been connecting utorrent for 3 days, but haven’t got any seed yet…
tks!
hm, no…i think the torrent went down a while ago. the file is *huge* though, so I couldn’t host the bandwidth from my server. Let me try and figure something out, or email me directly and we can figure out something off-line…I just don’t want to end up paying big hosting fees by exposing this link….thanks!
Oh, I’d love to learn some hardware hacking, webcast or video tape it please!
i’m referring to a tutorial he presented… it’s not much hardware hacking i guess..
you may check out a book he has written “hacking the xbox”…
or you could try to find “how to be a hardware hacker in 21 days”
oh, of course, you’re talking about the post… sorry.
Is this silicon level hardware hacking or PCB level stuff? I wanna come to your conference, how do I register?
For your ToorCon workshop can you tell me what the start and finish times will be? I will be attending and need to schedule my return flight that day.
Thanks
This particular talk is PCB-level hacking, actually more focused on firmware with some soldering possibly–intended to be more of a gentle introduction to hardware for software guys.
The workshop will be on Monday, october 2nd. It starts in the morning and will end in the afternoon–not sure about the exact timing yet, but more of the afternoon activities will be interactive sessions where I sit down with people and make sure they get their stuff working and answer their questions.
Hi, bunnie
I read the doc about crack xbox in 2004. And I have some question about the crack:)
1. xbox360 is a product now. but I donot see the motherboard of xbox cause it is expensive…
U mentioned in you paper that it’s hard to get rom code which stored in the flash, cause it has no generic flash in motherboard. is it true now?
2. xbox use CELL processor. And I know cell processor has very low yeild. What’s that means? Commonly, analog part or many memory will result in low yeild? Could I conclude that cell processor has a lot of memory(flash.rom..ram…)?
3. ibm Broadway processor is for wii game machine? do u know any tech about the processor:)
4. u mentioned that pic microcontroller monitor the flash.. why need that? I think the cell processor use HAB(high assurance boot) which need RSA or ECC.. any unauthorized code are not permitted, am I right?
5.what’s ur object to crack the xbox? I know u just want to have fun:)
but someone want to get some free games.. through crack:)
About the workshop… Im very comfortable with hardware, c, and assembly, but have next to no experience with Linux. Does everything center around Linux, or is it only a small portion of the class?
For crack.. linux is not as important as hardware, assembly… My proposal.
what’s the meaning of ” instrusion detection at a minimum”.. u wirte this in your ppt.. huang.pdf..
this blog is dying! :D
