why a Universal out of curiosity

How much did you pay for the laser etcher? I have tons of “useless toys” (per friends’ descriptions) too, but they are not nearly as cool as yours :)
Epilog and Universal are pretty neck and neck these days. I got the universal partially because its lineage is in cutting–which is what I use it mostly for–and partially because it has the “easy upgrade” laser modules. ULSI offers a one-year “cost-difference only” upgrade of your laser module to a higher power module, which is nice–I can start by trying out the low power version and upgrade if it seems that I need more power for the cutting jobs that I have. ULSI also threw in an extra years’ warranty to sweeten the pot for me, so I took it.
