This seems to be a board from a telephone exchange from the late ’70s
Looks like commutator board from a phone station.
Looks like the ringing generator out of an older PABX.
just to be different… i’ll say a relay board from a traffic light controller…
Yes, this is definately for telephony. All the major parts are Western Electric (WE). After doing some searching with the card size (ty for the ruler), number of pins, etc, I found that it is a Western Electric Key Telephone Unit (KTU) card. They are about 8 inches with 80 contacts.

The 407 was the closest match I could find:

Forgot to add, this would be for use with the WE 1A2 key system.
Seeing more relays than the 407 made me suspect the 424, which is a 407 that supports more lines. Google images turned up a listing for a 424A: http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/70s-vintage-western-electric-dial-intercom-424a , which is more similar than the 407, Maybe a later model? The relays are laid out the same, but the metal-can transistors changed to TO-92s and moved around some.
western electric 407 type ktu.
pulse dial intercom card
wow!
next time I reload before sending.
the giveaway were the “WE” embossed on the relays
Each one of these cards served a single dedicated telephone line, and the card created a loud “Click!” noise when it placed/received a call.
Here is a video of a #5 crossbar switch being used in an American city (probably in the 70’s/80’s), you can hear the thousands of clicking cards working in the background.

Hi bunnie,
it seems that your directory of hacks and hack scripts for chumbies has been deleted off the chumby servers. could you please post your hacks on your blog somewhere ?
